Video Specifications

Video delivery specifications for various video resolutions.

Standard Online Delivery

By default Vanilla Video films all events and video productions in 24 frames per second, with the exception of sporting events and slow motion capture. Sports are typically filmed at 60 frames per second unless otherwise directed. Slow motion is recorded at either 240 frames per second, or 60 frames per second, depending on camera and played back at 24 frames per second.

Note that some cameras are unable to shoot high-frame rates at a 4K or higher resolution. Please let us know prior to filming if you require specific settings or equipment, e.g., cameras or lenses, resolutions, color profiles, bitrates, or any other specifications. It is extremely important to provide video specifications prior to ordering and / or capturing the video since this cannot be changed.

Unless explicitly directed otherwise, Vanilla Video delivers videos in 4K Ultra High Definition — and, offers complementary 360p Streaming, 720p HD, 1080p Full HD versions upon request. We use industry standard settings for all of these popular resolutions. If a video was originally shot in a higher resolution and / or bitrate, it is possible to upgrade the resolution for up to 90 days.

After 90 days, we may only stored compressed footage — i.e., we will not be able to upgrade bitrates or upscale footage as well. Although we still store 4K Ultra High Definition video long-term, the original camera bitrates can be up to 10 times higher, providing more color information, detail and range for editing.

Camera Source Compression Notice

Online delivery typically requires us to compress the raw footage. If your project requires the original camera source files, we are able to mail the source files on a portable hard drive for an additional fee. Preparation and shipping takes additional time. Please be aware that camera source files may be difficult to work with for the non-savvy user.
