Thomas Casselman

Junior Videographer

Tom joined Vanilla Video shortly after graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a BA degree in Broadcast Journalism. A 23-year-old Chicago native, Tom enjoys the rich flavors of the city's cuisine, and Chicago's long-standing tradition of sports.

Tom's passion for athletics is partly what sparked his interest in video. This started during his time at MU-Columbia, where Tom co-hosted a weekly sports talk radio show for three years. Tom eventually moved from radio to video, and found a place at Vanilla to nurture his love of sports.

"I really enjoy shooting high school sports. Basketball is my favorite, but I like most others too."

While Tom enjoys shooting sports, he is open to all other opportunities that come his way.

"I am excited to do something worthwhile at Vanilla. There are a lot of paths available to me, and I don't know where they may take me."

When he isn't watching or playing sports (despite not being an all-star athlete), Tom likes to take some time to watch his favorite movies. These include Star Wars, The Big Lebowski, Guardians of the Galaxy, Dirty Harry and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Tom can also be found with his nose in a book, especially if it's the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or the Dune series.

While some of Tom's best memories involve being around people he loves and enjoys, one of Tom's best travel memories is when he went to Rome for spring break.

"I've never tasted pizza so good, and the city was steeped in history. It was the experience of a lifetime."

Tom has also travelled to three other countries besides Italy. These include Jamaica, England and France. Unsurprisingly, Tom also has a passion for traveling. He likes to taste good food, see new places and enjoy great times with people.

"We only get to live once, so I aim to make the best of it. I'd like to retire at a relatively young age and travel and afford to enjoy the great experiences of life. Any way I can bring some measure of happiness to someone's life is an on-going mission for me, as is being the best person I can be."

One of Tom's personal, favorite accomplishments is solving the Sunday edition of the crossword puzzle without any internet help. To this day, it remains one of his prouder achievements. Tom also was a member of the St. Ignatius College Prep Chess Team all four years of high school. They went to state every year and won their conference during his senior year, which is another one of Tom's personal achievements.

Tom enjoys fried chicken, Italian beef, BBQ ribs, thin crust pizza, pulled pork, sautéed shrimp, steak (medium rare), bread, almost any kind of pie, and soft, gooey cookies or brownies. Being quite the cook, Tom also finds any meal he makes to be quite tasty.

Currently, Tom is working on improving his professional skills at Vanilla Video.

"Vanilla Video is a company that has a lot of potential to morph and develop into many different things, and being a team member here and having the chance to help shape the future of this company is something new and exciting."

"The chance to leave my mark on Vanilla Video, and in turn have Vanilla Video leave its mark on me, is a fascinating proposition."
